Würk
Cannabis-built HCM covering payroll, tax filing, HR, benefits, timekeeping, and scheduling for licensed operators.
Würk is a human capital management platform built for cannabis operators, launched in 2015 as the first HCM company to serve the industry exclusively. It covers the full employee lifecycle in one system: recruiting and applicant tracking, onboarding, HR records, benefits enrollment, timekeeping, scheduling, performance management, and payroll with tax filing. The platform's reason for existing is continuity. Mainstream payroll providers routinely decline or terminate plant-touching cannabis clients, and Würk's proposition is that it will not. It runs payroll and full tax service across all 50 states and Puerto Rico, remitting to more than 5,000 local tax jurisdictions, and reports paying over 50,000 employees and moving roughly $4 billion annually. It also supports cash-based pay runs for operators with limited banking access, and offers managed payroll, managed HR, and tax registration as outsourced services for teams without an internal HR function. Würk hosts on UKG's cloud infrastructure and was the first cannabis payroll provider to complete a SOC 1 Type 2 audit. It skews enterprise: the company reports serving five of the twelve largest US multi-state operators, and its strengths are multi-EIN structures, benefits carrier connections, and consolidated workforce reporting. One deliberate gap worth knowing before a demo is that Würk does not integrate directly with POS or seed-to-sale systems such as Metrc, so labor-versus-sales forecasting is not native the way it is in retail-first workforce tools.

MSOs consolidating payroll across multiple EINs, entities, and state tax registrations in a single system of record.
Plant-touching employers that need labor allocated by activity and cost center to support a defensible 280E cost of goods sold position.
Retail operators managing hourly scheduling, break compliance, and badge expiry across several store locations.
Companies that want managed payroll, managed HR, and tax registration handled outside the business rather than hiring internally.
Operators whose mainstream payroll or banking provider exited the relationship and need a vendor that knowingly serves licensed cannabis.
